SUM THAX Game Rules
Learn Classic Thax first!
SUM THAX is a fun way to play THAX. You'll need 30 playing pieces, a paper and pencil, a pair of dice and the THAX gameboard (below).

The object of SUM THAX is to accumulate points gains by winning "rounds" of THAX until the predetermined goal is reached. The same rules apply as Classic Thax, however, the final outcome of the game is determined over a series of THAX games and points are earned based on the numbers left uncovered by the loser.
Gameplay: Play is the same as regular (classic) THAX. Before the game is started, players agree on a goal score. The winner is the player to achieve this goal score first. A common goal I like to play to is 33.
Play continues until one player has covered their side. The numbers left uncovered by the losing player are added together to make a score for that "round". This score is then added to the winning player's score. The player to reach the goal first is the winner of SUM THAX.
This illustration shows a game won by Player B.
Since Player B has won this "round" or single game of THAX, the numbers left uncovered on Player A's side are combined and added to Players B's score. In this case, Player B has earned 7 points.
